Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Afrika Bambaataa ,Love Trio with U-Roy
“When funk, soul and percussion meet consciousness, Seun Kuti must be in the house. Son of Afro-Beat icon Fela Kuti, Seun dutifully delivers where his father left off. The younger Kuti’s inimitable style could have only been passed down from father to son. At the age of 8, Seun started playing saxophone and piano and by the time he reached 15, he was in position to take over the musical activism of his father. With Fela’s original 20-piece band, Egypt 80, Seun Kuti continues to captivate with his electrifying presence.
Afrika Bambaataa, the legendary DJ and community leader from the South Bronx, was instrumental in the early development of hip hop. In 2007 he was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Legendary Jamaican toaster U-Roy joins forces with Lower East Side dub group Love Trio to create an improvisational mixture of rock steady beats, sing-song vocals, electronica and jazz. Love Trio is comprised of Swedish born tenor saxophonist Ilhan Ersahin, Brazilian Girls’ bassist Jesse Murphy and drummer Kenny Wollesen.
Ewart Beckford, aka U-Roy, is known round the world as the great Jamaican dubmaster. One of the original remixers, U-Roy began adding his own vocals to the tracks to create fresh sounds. Together, they have created Love Trio in Dub featuring U-Roy on Nublu Records.”
