First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum

“At the Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturdays, thousands of visitors enjoy free programs of art and entertainment each month from 5–11 p.m. All evening long, the Museum Café serves a wide selection of sandwiches, salads, and beverages, and a cash bar offers wine and beer. Parking is a flat rate of $4 starting at 5 p.m. All other Saturdays, the Museum closes at 6 p.m.”

In the darkly humorous Singapore Dreaming (Woo Yen Yen and Colin Goh, 2006, 105 min., NR) , a Singaporean family deals with loss, ambition, and the search for what really matters in life. A romantic short Akira's Hip Hop Shop (Joseph Doughrity, 2007, 15 min., NR), about a rap-loving Japanese man and a young Black culinary student precedes the feature film. Conversation with the directors of the latter film follows. Free tickets (340) are available at the Visitor Center at 7 p.m.
